Unpacking the #GeoBike

Ever wondered if one can do Geographic Citizen Science on a bike? Let us present and unpack our co-designed and “co-painted” GeoBike that we have been using for fieldwork our projects. Here, you will find:

  • A smartphone for data collection using the EpiCollect app, and a bike phone holder (handy while wayfinding)
  • A senseBox from re:edu for measuring environmental variables
  • Research journals with a map of the area, protocols for qualitative observations, and diaries of fieldwork impressions
  • Pencils, pens, and colourful markers
  • An instant printer for printing the most memorable photos from each fieldwork trip
  • Two powerbanks
  • A ball, a frisbee, and some other sports equipment (one can hardly map sports and recreation places without trying them out)
  • A first aid kit, reflective vests, and bike repair kit (safety is important!)
  • A water-proof plastic cover for the „base camp“ (or to hide under if caught by a shower)
  • Occasionally, a watermelon or some sweets for our young researchers!
